It's 3am and sleeping has been quite an uphill task, so I abandon it and allow my mind to drift. As usual, the Nigerian music industry dominates my thoughts.

The fact that so many songs are churned out in droves, day in, day out bothers me. If the songs were good or the artistes themselves have prospects, I will probably feel better. Sadly, the painful truth is that a lot of upcoming artistes roaming the streets of Lagos and flooding the social media with download links will never become successful.

There are certain realities about the music business that must be chewed and digested in order to rid ourselves of any naïve concepts and beliefs about breaking into the industry. With this in mind, the following observations should be taken as wake-up-calls about establishing your career.

There are many pitfalls on the path to success, and that is particularly true in the music industry. To be successful in this industry, there are several things you need to know NOT to do, so you don't prevent yourself from achieving your desired level of success.
